Critical Infrastructure Protection: GALILEO

Critical infrastructures in sectors such as energy, defense, healthcare, transportation, communication and finance provide essential services for everyday life. Their disruption or destruction by terrorist attacks, natural disasters or other incidents can cause huge problems. Authorities are increasingly aware of the importance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and are taking more and more steps to prevent and prepare for physical and cyber threats to critical infrastructures.

D’Appolonia has a varied experience in CIP projects including the space sector. For Galileo, Europe’s global navigation satellite system, D’Appolonia is providing security engineering support to the European Space Agency (ESA) on behalf of Thales Alenia Space Italia, and to the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GSA). Our activities include technical, operational and management aspects that impact the security design, operation, maintenance and evolution of the entire system. D’Appolonia monitors the security for the whole Galileo system, performing daily, weekly and monthly checks and reports on the system’s security status.
