D’Appolonia met Italian Research Minister Francesco Profumo at the Innovation Convention 2011 - 5-6 December 2011 – Brussels, where we displayed our lightweight and blast-proof textile container for the protection of aircrafts from on-flight blasts. Our project was one of the 48 selected projects among over 450 expressions of interest to showcase at the Innovation Convention 2011 hosted by the European Commission. (See PDF)

In the framework of the Sino-Italian Cooperation Program for the Environmental Protection the international Final Workshop on Prevention, Assessment and Management of Oil/Chemical Spills was held in Beijing, presenting the results of the multi-years D’Appolonia project to both the Italian and Chinese Environmental Ministries and to a number of Chinese experts from National Institutions and Local Authorities. The project activities were aimed at supporting the Chinese authorities to improve their capabilities and preparedness to face environmental emergencies deriving from industrial accidents.

Another prestigious award for the FLY-BAG antiblast textile container for cargo transportation designed by D’Appolonia who has been granted the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award in the category “Product”. The award ceremony will take place on 18 October 2011, 5 p.m. at MATERIALICA 2011 in the New Munich Trade Fair.

D’Appolonia has been appointed as new Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Advisor for the Nabucco Pipeline Project, the new gas bridge from Asia to Europe which will directly connect the world’s richest gas regions - the Caspian region and the Middle East - to the European consumer markets. With more than 50 years of experience in environmental and social issues, the Italian company is a leading specialist in this field and will support Nabucco in the efficient completion of the project-wide Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

D’Appolonia experts participated to the workshop of Songhua River basin water pollution prevention 12th Five Year Plan of Jilin Province (China) held in Changchun. More than 40 officers and experts were presents from Jilin Environment Protection Department, other Local and National Institutions. IMELS. D’Appolonia experts presented their experiences on EU Water Framework Directive, river basin pollution prevention and control, early warning and emergency response for water pollution accidents, hazardous industries inventory and control. D’Appolonia experts took part to the First Technical Training Session for the Damage Assessment for Environmental Pollution Accidents project in the framework of the Sino-Italian Cooperation Programme (SICP). The presentations held in Beijing summarized the legal systems in developed countries and share the experiences on the compensation for pollution damages. The participants at the technical training sessions included Chinese experts of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and other National and Local Institutions.
